Stobbe Grinding, LLC was started in 1972 by Joe Sr. and wife Elaine Stobbe. They live in Ashton, NE. He still grinds a little and collects John Deere toys for a hobby. Elaine has retired from working at the FSA office and is enjoying her retirement.
The family business is now managed by their son, Joe, Jr. and wife, Michelle Stobbe of North Loup Nebraska. They have four children, two married sons, Brock and wife Tiffany and Bryce and Valerie. One daughter, Courtney and son, Zachary. Brock and Tiffany have two daughters Kessyn and Kadisyn, with a grandson on the way. Brock and Tiffany live in Wood River, NE. They both have great jobs away from the farm. Bryce and Val live on the farm and they reside in Joe and Michelle’s first home. They help with the day to day activities at the farm and grinding business.
First came, Brock and Bryce came along six years. It’s kind of amazing all of the children are six years apart. Courtney came six years after Bryce and then Zachary came six years after Courtney. It’s pretty good timing or planned parenthood! Michelle and Joe enjoyed every minute of their children’s childhood and they were all very close to their mama. Today in 2020, Brock is now 33, Bryce is 27, Courtney is 22 and Zachary 16. Courtney lives in Omaha and works at UNMC as a M R I technician and a Radiological tech. Zach is planning on going to College but not sure his Major. Michelle was very fortunate to have her mother (Betty) that is 94 years young close by. She was in their daily lives and has always been there to help with the raising of the children.
Joe and Michelle also own farm ground, Alfalfa, Grass Hay and do custom work, Stobbe Hay also does Custom Hay Needs along with Semis that will deliver your purchase (Hay, Corn Stalk Bales, Grain) They also have three hydra fork hay grinders. And two corn grinders for wet corn. When they are not busy with their farm, delivery, and custom grinding business, they raise and train barrel horses that are AQHA and some thoroughbred. Most of their blood lines are Flaming Jet, Cash Not Credit, Dash Ta Fame, CS Flashlight and A Streak Of Fling.
In her spare time, when Michelle isn’t keeping track of Stobbe Farm books and keeping her family on time. She offers Equine Products for her fellow Barrel Racers and friends. She has been with Animal Element Supplements for Horses since 2009. Along With ShooFly Leggins. The company is owned and built there in North Loup Nebraska and they are very good friends of the Stobbe family. She also offers, Gale Bebee braided reins, Swanson hay bags and Swanson net wrap. She assisted two girls, Emma (14) and Gracie (12) Pearson from Broken Bow, NE to start their mule tape halter business to support their entry fees and horses. They call their business, “Mighty Maverick Merchandise” Besides the mule tape halters they make dog leashes, roping reins, lead ropes and split reins. If there’s a color you want or can dream up they can make it!
Michelle started riding horses when she was four years old. Never had a saddle until she was 13 and always had horses that her brothers had on the farm. You could not keep her out of or away from any type of horse so she showed in 4-H until she was too old. She married set out to be a wife and mother to Brock. But something was missing so she decided to go run barrels at the age of 21. She struggled like all young horsemen and never had enough money to buy anything expensive. Her first barrel horse cost her $250 and she bought it on her own. She trained that horse well and ended up selling it for a lot more money, so then she was really hooked. Michelle made it to the Mid State finals when she was 24 and went all over Nebraska in the Mid State Rodeo Association and the Nebraska State Rodeo Association. Today she is still a member of those associations along with North Western Barrel Horse Association, National Barrel Horse Association, Nebraska 4 D Association and Women’s Professional Rodeo Association.
